IRVINE, Calif. - Five Washington pitchers combined to hold UC Irvine to only one hit Sunday as the Huskies picked up a 3-1 win in the final game of a three-game, non-conference series at Anteater Ballpark.

The Huskies (16-7) saw their 11-game hitting streak broken in an 8-3 loss Saturday night, but ended up with a two-games-to-one series victory over UCI (10-16).

Junior Trevor Gibson (3-0), working in his third career start, threw five and two-thirds for the win, allowing a hit, a run and five walks while striking out six to remain perfect as a starter. Relievers Trent Baysinger, Scott Robertson, Brian Carter and Will Fenton finished up. Fenton earned his fifth save of the year, striking out three in the ninth.

UCI, which got solid starting pitching performances all weekend, had another Sunday from Paul French. The senior righty, in his first start of the year, suffered the loss to fall to 0-2, but held Washington to three runs on seven hits over eight innings.

Washington posted all of its runs with a three-run, two-out rally in the fifth inning. Freshman Brent Lillibridge drove in John Otness from third with an infield single and then scored when senior Tila Reynolds belted a double off of the base of the left-center field wall. Reynolds came around to make it 3-0 on a single from Greg Isaacson.

The Anteaters didn't manage their first hit until first baseman Matt Falk led off the fifth with a triple down the right-field line. Falk came in to cut the UW lead to 3-1 on a sacrifice fly from second baseman Matt Fisher.

In the sixth, UCI threatened as Gibson mixed three walks with two flyouts to load the bases with two down. Junior reliever Trent Baysinger came on and got pinch hitter Daniel Miramontes to line out sharply to third to end the inning.

Isaacson, a junior from Aberdeen, finished the day with three hits to lead the UW offense.

The Huskies travel to face Portland Tuesday and Wednesday in non-conference action before opening the Pac-10 schedule next weekend at Stanford.
