GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Several Washington rowers were honored for academic and athletic achievements at the annual NCAA Championship banquet held at the Chattahoochee Country Club Wednesday night. The NCAA Rowing Championships are being held at nearby Lake Lanier beginning Thursday, May 24 and running through Sat., May 26.
Three members of the third-ranked varsity eight crew were honored as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Academic All-Americans, each with a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average. They are sophomore Lauren Estevenin, who strokes the varsity boat, six seat Anna Mickelson and four seat Adrienne Hunter.
Mickelson was also selected to the West Region First Team, for her athletic excellence. Joining her on the first team were senior team captain Rika Geyser and junior coxswain Mary Whipple. Senior Nicole Borges received second team regional recognition. The three first team honorees will move on to the national ballot, for the all-America team that will be selected following the NCAA Championships.
