• Washington's season-long captains (Donald Butler, Jake Locker, Daniel Te'o-Nesheim and Ryan Tolar) were joined for the coin toss by game captains Josh Gage and Tim Tucker, both linebackers.

• UCLA won the toss and elected to defer to the second half. Washington chose to receive the opening kickoff.

• Senior safety Jason Wells, who hadn't seen any action since the USC game in 2007, due to a couple of injuries, started at one safety spot for the Huskies.

• True freshman defensive end Andru Pulu started at one defensive end spot, his first start of the year. He's the fifth different true freshman to start a game for the Huskies this year.

• Two Husky offensive linemen earned their first career starts today vs. UCLA: left tackle Drew Schaefer and right guard Morgan Rosborough.

• In the first quarter, the Huskies got a takeaway on a UCLA kickoff return and converted it into a 30-yard field goal from Erik Folk. It was the first time this season that an opponent turnover had resulted in a UW field goal on the ensuing drive. Washington had scored five touchdowns off of 13 prior takeaways, but no field goals.

• On the next Husky takeaway, a Desmond Trufant interception, the Huskies also got a field goal on the ensuing drive.

• Husky tailback Chris Polk, who had two 100-yard rushing games this season coming into the game, had rushed for 102 yards by early in the second quarter vs. UCLA.

• Early in the third quarter, the Huskies already had four takeaways, their highest total of the season for an entire game.

• Midway through the third quarter, Husky receiver Jermaine Kearse had already posted career highs for both receiving yards and touchdowns with 114 and two, respectively. He was also one shy of his career high for catches, which is eight. It's the first 100-yard receiving game of his career.

• With five takeaways through late in the third quarter, the Huskies have posted their highest number of takeaways since they got five vs. Arizona in 2005.
