SEATTLE - Washington track and field added another member to its 2013-14 class today, as top local javelin thrower Ashley Alexander signed on the dotted line. Alexander is the 14th Husky track recruit to sign a National Letter of Intent, and the fifth thrower in the class.
Currently in her senior year at Monroe High School, Alexander is the top returning javelin thrower in the state of Washington. She was second at the 2012 4A Washington State Championships, throwing a personal-best of 143-feet, 9-inches in the final. That mark was a PR by 16 feet.
A talented overall athlete, Alexander has competed in all three jumps events, and also made state last year in the discus.
Assistant throws coach T.J. Crater said of Alexander, "We are very excited to have Ashley joining our program. She will fill an immediate need for us next year in the women's javelin. She has a lot to bring to the table, and she is a die-hard Dawg fan. With her size, athleticism, and upside, we expect Ashley to be a contributor for our team from the beginning."
