#2 Arizona 88, Washington 85 (ot)
February 6, 2003
Bank of America Arena / Seattle, Wash.
WASHINGTON COACH LORENZO ROMAR
"We played a very good basketball team tonight. They stepped up and made plays when they had to. I can't say enough about the courage our guys showed. From day one we have preached about giving effort. When you play a team like Arizona, they take advantage of every breakdown you have. That is a mark of a good basketball team and that was the difference in the game. I am extremely proud of our guys. You could see they had nothing left and they gave all they had. They know the standard of our team and they are going to win many more games playing this way. It was a loss. We feel like we are going to be champions someday. If we feel this way, we are never pleased with a loss."
On the technical fouls
"With Bobby Jones', I thought he got caught up in the game. He is very competitive. The other technical, I know Arizona got five points from it. We have talked in practice about keeping your emotions under control during a game."
On how Washington plays at home
"We are a better team at home. We are very confident that we can be competitive at home. I don't want to sound arrogant, but we always play well and have more win's at home."
Washington Forward Bobby Jones
"This loss does not sit well, but it shows we can play against elite teams and the potential we have. Our confidence is very high. If we don't think this way, why should we play basketball. I love to play this game. The energy was great tonight. I have never experienced anything like this anywhere. We should continue to have this much energy here and this much support."
ARIZONA COACH LUTE OLSON
"I thought Washington played harder. They competed harder. They played with a lot more enthusiasm and effort than our guys did. They deserved to win the game, the only thing that saved us was Salim (Stoudamire) hitting the shots."
"To Washington's credit they really went after the ball today. But there's no way we should give up 15 offensive rebounds. A good indication, every loose ball and rebound and rebound they got. They wanted it more than we did. They played real well."
On Isaiah Fox's Absence
"Isaiah missed the bus for the game. We've always said there's no penalty for being early."
"It's like we just can't stand prosperity. We can't put together two really good games in a row. We play 20 good minutes and then we don't. But we've got eight games left before the Pac-10 tournament, and there has got to be a huge difference."
