Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Washington Head Coach Lorenzo Romar

On the game:
"[Arizona State] stepped up and hit some big shots. Derek Glasser hit some big shots Jeff Pendergraph hit some big shots. They came through when they needed to."

On ASU's large first-half lead:
"We came out with great energy on the defensive end. I thought we were rotating well, we were moving our feet, we were quick to the ball. Arizona State did a great job of maintaining their poise throughout that and they just chipped away and chipped away, and we had difficulty putting the ball in the basket early. With that combination they were able to slowly jump out in front of us."

On the near fight:
"I thought what went on is the same thing that goes on sometimes in practice...Two teams really competing -at that point really competing -and neither wanted to give the edge to the other. I don't think anyone lost control, I just think it was two teams competing really hard."

On getting a loss out of the way before the NCAA Tournament
"I think that's fan-talk, to be honest with you. When you're out there playing and competing, you're not thinking of getting one out of the way. That little skirmish wouldn't have broken out if we were just thinking about getting it out of the way. Guys are competing, we're trying to win the game."

Washington senior Jon Brockman

On the near fight:
"Just guys competing. We're playing hard and sometimes bodies get banged around and feelings get hurt, I guess you could say. Sometimes games just get heated like that."

Washington guard Justin Dentmon

On the first-half deficit:
"We got frustrated a little bit, but we knew we had another half to go. So we we're just trying to maintain and make sure that lead didn't get crazy. So we contained it a little bit and once we got into halftime we talked it over and we knew what we had to do to come out and cut it down. Just take baby steps."

On the poor shooting in the first half:
"We were just rushing our shots. Sometimes in the zone, you get an open look and it's like, `wow, I'm open.' But against the zone it's rare that you get open looks if you don't move the ball so, I think I was just rushing a little bit."
