LOS ANGELES - The Washington baseball team compiled 19 hits, including three each from Jayce Ray, Joe Meggs, Jacob Lamb and Caleb Brown, and got more solid pitching as the Huskies beat USC, 6-3, in the second game of a three-game, Pac-12 series at Dedeaux Field.

With the victory, the Huskies got back to .500 in conference play, improving to 10-10 in Pac-12 play and 25-18 overall. USC fell to 22-20 overall and 7-12 in the conference.

UW reliever Tyler Kane (4-1) picked up the win after entering the game with two outs in the fifth. He went one and one-third innings, retiring all four batters he faced. Starter Tyler Davis went four and two-thirds innings, limiting the Trojans to one run on three hits, but didn't figure into the decision. Closer Joshua Fredendall pitched the ninth inning to earn his eighth save.

USC starter Andrew Triggs (4-5) took the loss. In his five innings, he gave up three runs on 13 Husky hits.

Ray and Meggs both finished the day 3-for-5 with two runs. Lamb was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double and Brown was 3-for-5 with a double and one batted in.

After being held scoreless in a 7-0 loss Friday, USC got on the board in the early Saturday when DH Alex Sherrod led off the second inning with a home run, his third of the year.

That 1-0 USC lead held up until the fifth inning when Lamb singled to drive in Jayce Ray for the Huskies' first run of the day. Branden Berry followed Lamb's hit by lining a single into right, driving in Meggs to put the Huskies on top. After a double-play groundout moved Lamb to third, Trevor Mitsui singled to make it a 3-1 Husky lead.

The UW added to its lead in the seventh. After loading the bases on two singles and a walk, Brown and Ty Afenir came through with back-to-back, two-out singles, each driving in a run to increase the UW to 5-1.

In the eighth, Ray singled and Meggs doubled for his fourth hit of the game. Lamb followed with a sacrifice fly to right to drive in Ray, making it 6-1.

In the bottom of the eighth, Sherrod belted his second homer of the day, this one a two-run shot just over the right-field fence, to cut the gap to 6-3.

The Huskies and Trojans wrap up the series Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game.
