Throughout the season, will check in with the captains of the Husky track and field team for insight into what each unit is working on in practice and goals for upcoming meets. The Huskies have a total of eight captains this season: James Alaka and Jordan Carlson for the sprints group, Jeremy Taiwo and Taylor Nichols for the jumps, vaulters, and multis, Angus Taylor and Elisa Bryant lead the throwers, and Charlie Williams and Christine Babcock represent the distance runners. Making their first appearance to complete the first round are Angus and Elisa. Angus penned his entry prior to the Husky Classic, with Elisa writing hers right after the meet.

Women's Throws Captain
Elisa Bryant, Senior from Seattle

This year's women's weight throwers have obtained the pleasant additions of freshmen Stephanie Beck and Jesse Havens. These two will also bring a much-needed reinforcement on the hammer/discus side of things come outdoor season. So far, for indoor season, these newbies to the weight throw have shown significant promise. Jesse has consistently increased her personal best every week finishing the Husky Classic at 12.88 meters. Stephanie has thrown right in this area as well at 12.55 meters. One of the most exciting things to see is senior Erica Huse making some technical breakthroughs, allowing her to greatly increase her PB and grab the 3rd-best women's weight throw spot in Husky history.

The biggest change to the throws squad this season is the new leadership of Coach T.J. Crater. He has brought his knowledge and throwing expertise to the Dawgs providing a different dynamic approach to each throwing discipline, which so far has been and looks to be a great transformation for Husky Throws. Our next meet is the MPSF Championship, where I will be competing to get back to the meet where I received my All-American a few years ago. With the way my marks have been progressing, I not only expect to do that but also look forward to setting new personal bests. Remember to come to the Dempsey and support all our throwers in two weeks! Go DAWGS!!

Men's Throws Captain
Angus Taylor, Senior from Richmond, British Columbia

This month we have had some great progress with our male throwers. We have had a new addition to our squad - Danny Shelton a shot putter who is now members of both the UW football team and Track program. Practice intensity has increased a lot now that the indoor season has fired up, Conner Larned - indoor weight thrower and outdoor hammer/discus thrower always brings a serious attitude while we train and Danny has been dedicating himself to bettering his first collegiate mark thrown at the UW indoor preview meet in January.

Our Javelin throwers Joe Zimmerman, Jimmy Brookman, Curtis Clausen and Quinn Hale are a tightly knit group who push each other every day during both their throwing and weight lifting workouts (We expect some big things from them this upcoming outdoor season). They help out at every indoor track meet, volunteering for men's 35lb weight throw retrieval (not a fun job, that thing is heavy!) as well as retrieval for the shot put competitions. The indoor competitors will all be signed up for the upcoming Husky Classic where we hope drop some bombs! Come out and support your UW Throws squad!
