SEATTLE - The Washington men's crew program will celebrate its historic championship season on October 12, 2012 at Conibear Shellhouse.
The event (time TBA) is set the Friday before the USC football game at CenturyLink Field, where the rowers from the team will be acknowledged for their victory. Admission to the celebration at Conibear is free. All fans, family and friends are welcome to enjoy this momentous occasion with the team.
"It's been a tremendous season, and I can't speak enough about the hard work and sacrifices made by our student-athletes," said Husky coach Michael Callahan. "But we couldn't have done it without the support of the rowing stewards, our alumni and friends. We want everyone to join in this celebration."
The Huskies capped a perfect regular season and secured back-to-back National Championships by winning every single event entered in at the IRA Championships in Camden, N.J., in addition to capturing an unprecedented sixth straight team national title. Even more impressive, the Husky oarsmen set course in all events including the varsity 8+, which tore down the 2,000-meter course in a time of 5:21.4, nearly two seconds ahead of the previous record set by California in 1999.
"We won the regatta," Callahan said. "Now let's win the party."
