University of Washington Basketball vs. Oklahoma State
December 4, 2008 * Postgame Quotes
Washington Head Coach Lorenzo Romar
"We talked about making progress all week and I think that we made progress. Coming into the game the goal, win or lose, was to make progress and I think we did that tonight. We knew that they were only seven deep because of the loss of one of their players, and we hoped that we could come in and continue to pressure them defensively and offensively we could wear them down. They are very hard to guard but I think that we did a great job as they were only 3-9 from behind the line in the first half. We only committed 13 turnovers and only five in the first half and I thought that was a great improvement. "
Washington freshman guard Isaiah Thomas
"I think we played excellent tonight. We did an excellent job of keeping them from hitting beyond the three point line which was a key coming into the game. As a whole I think that this is the best we have played all year, I think that our defense could have been better but overall I would say that this was our best game all year."
Washington Senior Guard Justin Dentmon
"If I had to say why this game looked so different from our other games the main difference would be execution. We executed better on both ends. We are doing the right things on offense and defense and we are also a lot more focused this game. The early losses really woke us up, and even though we should not have to be woken up at the beginning of the season I look at it as a positive that our eyes are open now. I think that we still have a long way to go with everybody coming into their roles on the court but I think that we are coming along. I think that this game was a big step in the right direction. I think Oklahoma State is a great team, they shot well from behind the three point line and they came out and played hard. I think that the fast pace of the game tonight really played to our advantage. We are at our best when everything is moving fast and flowing up and down the court."
Oklahoma State Head Coach Travis Ford
"I am very disappointed with this loss. We have a couple of days to correct our mistakes and they will be corrected. We need to make some adjustments to our team and some adjustments to our style, but we will be better come next game. We had a hard time calling plays out from this bench because of the noise coming from the arena. I was very impressed by this Husky crowd. This was the best crowd I've seen. It was the best crowd I've been in front of in a long time. I can see the difference it makes for this team, because our players were having a very tough time hearing the calls. It was a very impressive student section and it was obvious that they really helped their team tonight. We executed better in the second half, not up to the level of execution we would like to be at, but better. Some of our weaknesses were very apparent and we need to do some things to camouflage those weaknesses and correct some."
