SEATTLE - University of Washington men's basketball coach Lorenzo Romar received a letter of intent from Terrence Ross out of Jefferson HS (Portland, Ore.) on Friday.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound Ross helped lead Jefferson to the 2008 Oregon 5A State Championship title as a sophomore and was named the state's player of the year. He moved across country to attend Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.) as a junior and averaged 13.5 points and earned All-Metro honors. Ross returned to Jefferson for his senior season, but did not play basketball.

"Terrence Ross is rare in that he possesses a high-level combination of athleticism and is yet an outstanding shooter," said Romar. "He's just scratching the surface as how good he can be. He will definitely help with us trying to become a better-shooting basketball team. He gives us instant help in that regard. He also has great size and fits right in with what we're trying to do defensively."

Ross is a highly-touted national recruit that is ranked 30th by ESPNU, 43rd by Rivals, 65th by MaxPreps and 93rd by Scout.com. He originally committed to Maryland, but re-opened his recruitment and was considering Kentucky, Kansas, Oregon and Oklahoma before ultimately signing with the Huskies.

"The relationship with the coaches and the team," said Ross about what drew him to Washington. "It is close to home and the atmosphere is great. I just love this place."

"I bring a lot of intensity and above-the-rim action," Ross added. "I just want to win."

Ross will join a talented squad that was 26-10 overall, 11-7 in the Pac-10 Conference, won the Conference Tournament and made a run to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

The Huskies previously signed high school senior Desmond Simmons (Richmond, Calif./Salesian HS) and sophomore junior college transfer Aziz N'Diaye (Dakar, Sengal/College of Southern Idaho/Lake Forest Academy) to letters of intent.
