POST-REGATTA QUOTES

Bob Ernst
Washington Men's Head Coach

"I thought the guy's team as a whole performed pretty well today. The freshmen had a great race and the jayvees had a great race and the varsity four had a great race. The bottom line with the varsity right now is that Cal and Stanford are ranked No. 2 and 3 in the country and they're pretty darn good. And I think we're closer to average than we'd like to be. We're not done yet. There are three weeks until the national championships.

"In the freshman and jayvees we were certainly closer to Cal than in our dual with them a few weeks ago. The varsity was a disappointing performance today, especially after a really nice race last week against the Russians. The varsity guys aren't very consistent right now. That's a mark of greatness too, being ale to lay it down on demand. We don't seem to be there right now, so we'll keep trying."

Eleanor McElvaine
Washington Women's Head Coach

"Unfortunately it puts us in a position where we have to wait for the phone call on Tuesday. They'll (NCAA selection committee) make an announcement on Tuesday with who is invited. We're in a decently strong position. I didn't expect it to be this close. When I worked it out even after the heats this morning I thought we had second place pretty solid. The varsity four and jayvee (second varsity) eight just didn't perform up to par today. So, we got what we got.

"The main feeling on the team is that we really want to get that invitation because the varsity four and jayvee feel like they didn't show their best stuff down here. That's the frustrating thing, for an athlete to finish a season on something less than their best.

The varsity eight, they feel pretty good about their race. That is about what I expected out of them. That was the one finish that was as expected."

Kiel Petersen
UW Men's Varsity Eight Bow Seat

"I think we've just got to get faster. Rowing is not that hard sometimes. It's simple to figure some stuff out. The simple thing here is we just have to go faster. We've got a few weeks to do that."

Adrian Andrews
UW Men's Second Varsity Coxswain

"We had a good race actually. We executed exactly what we wanted to do. The only thing was that we bobbled at the start and let them get out a little bit far at 500. After that, the second thousand was one of the best thousands we've ever had. We have three more weeks to make that first thousand faster."

Sofia Benson-Goldberg
UW Women's Novice Eight Coxswain

"We didn't know a thing about them (Gonzaga). We knew that they might be fast and that they beat Wazzu. We were up on the pack at the start and then in the second 500 Gonzaga went and just kind of sat a length up the entire way down. We were hoping they wouldn't be able to sustain it, but you also hope that our moves would counteract theirs. It feels really good to beat Cal."

Katelin Snyder
UW Men's Freshman Eight Coxswain

"We made up over three seconds in a couple weeks (since the Cal dual). We just have to keep working because I know we have another gear for IRAs. Right before 1250 (meters) we kind of changed the tone and went for it. We had a strong sprint, a really strong sprint. If we had 50 more meters we would have gone through them."
