SEATTLE -- No. 36 Washington improved to 7-3 with a convincing 7-0 win over Portland on Friday afternoon at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Dawgs dominated doubles and after getting off to a slow start in singles, closed strong for the lopsided victory.

Washington continued its strong doubles play to take the early point. Julija Lukac and Andjela Nemcevic performed well, easily dispatching of the Portland team at No. 3, 8-1. Moments later, Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu closed out the No. 1 Portland team to clinch the point.

In singles, Shimizu got UW started with a quick 6-2, 6-2 win over Dhatt Saroop at the No. 5 spot. She was followed up by Julija Lukac who overcame an early hole, to bounce back and win the first set 7-5 and shutout Valeska Hoath, 6-0, in the second set.

Clinching the victory for Washington was Andjela Nemcevic who was making her debut at No.1 singles. She defeated Maja Mladenovic, 6-2, 6-4. Nemcevic entered the national singles rankings for the first time of the season this week and immediately showed she belonged with a convincing win at No. 1.

Also earning victories for the Dawgs were Elianne Douglas-Miron and Natali Coronel. Douglas-Miron battled Sabine Fuchs in a first set tiebreak, but won that and then dominated the second set for a 7-6, 6-2 victory. Coronel overcame losing the first set to win set two, 6-4 and then 10-7 in the third.

The Dawgs will be back in action on Sunday when it hosts Iowa State at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m. as the Dawgs look for their eighth win of the season.
