Washington Track Season Previews
Judging by the sheer number of competitors expecting to run, jump, and throw all day Saturday, the 2010 indoor track season will no doubt be the biggest yet in Dempsey Indoor history. Well over a thousand athletes are entered in the UW Indoor Preview, which begins at the stroke of 9 a.m. Saturday morning with action on the track and infield running continuously until approximately 7 p.m.
Pole vault and the 60m hurdles start off the day and the 4x400m relay will end it. In-between, dozens of Huskies will compete against athletes from all up and down the west coast. Schools heading to Seattle this weekend include Oregon, Stanford, Nevada, Hawai'i, San Francisco, Portland, and large contingents from local universities including Seattle Pacific, Seattle U., Central Washington, and Western Washington just to name a few.
A number of Washington's 2009 NCAA qualifiers will be opening up their seasons on Saturday. Scott Roth, the 2009 NCAA Runner-Up outdoors in the pole vault will headline the vaulters, joined by Regional qualifier Ryan Vu. Sophomore Kelly McNamee, an NCAA high jump qualifier last season will compete in the high jump plus several other events as she trains for the pentathlon. Heptathlon All-American Jeremy Taiwo will also compete in several events. Senior Jeff Gudaitis, an NCAA competitor in the 400-meters and 4x100m relay, will also run on UW's top 4x4 relay.
