Washington vs. UCLA
January 23, 2010
Washington Coach Tia Jackson
It's a different disappointment in this game than the game against SC. The differences being that I feel like for about 35 minutes or so in the game on Thursday, we competed that entire time. We had a couple lulls defensively but for the entire game we competed and maybe just lost ourselves for about give minutes. This game was the complete opposite and we still lose by four. Complete opposite though and I just feel like we weren't all dialed in for a good duration of the game. That's extremely disappointing, but just to say about the character of this team, we're going to battle all the way to the end. No one can just get out of their seats and leave. We're going to battle to the end and keep every game interesting. This game should definitely have been our game if we would have brought more than about seven or eight minutes of a sense of urgency about our play. That's probably the biggest disappointment about our play.
On Jasmine Dixon: We were ready. She's extremely aggressive. We knew it. She dips that shoulder quite a bit going to the hole, especially when she's attacking right. We knew it. She just made some tough baskets. It wasn't like they weren't contested looks. They were tough baskets to make. But again, they were right around the rim.
On whether they got the shots they wanted in the second half: We wanted to open the floor a little bit more and attack and I think we did that. With that kind of pressure you kind of lose sight of what the post are doing inside some but at least we occupied defenders inside. We had a difference pursuit at times in the second half going to the boards with that being our game plan. We wanted to attack the basket. If they want to pressure, we want to attack.
Washington Forward Laura McClellan
On what contributed to her big game: I think my teammates were just giving me good looks. Posting up on the block and giving me the ball. A couple times it was just right place right time and the ball just bounced right to me. My teammates were just looking inside a lot and got me some good looks.
On the morale of the team: Every loss we've had has been a close loss like this It shows that we can compete with anybody, even when we only play half a game of hard focused basketball. We know that as soon as we can put a full game together we can play with anything and the outcomes of these games will be different.
