SEATTLE - Junior C.J. Wilcox from the men's basketball team has been named the GoHuskies.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 7-13.
Wilcox averaged 23.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in helping Washington sweep California and Stanford in the Bay Area for the first since 1985. Wilcox also shot 53.1% (17 of 32) from the field and was 5 for 10 from 3-point range as the Huskies started the conference season with three-consecutive road wins for the first time since 1912.
In a 62-47 win over California, Wilcox poured in a game-high 19 points, grabbed what was then a career-high tying 8 rebounds, dished out four assists and had a block and a steal. He had five of Washington's 20 offensive rebounds in a night where the Huskies grabbed a season-high 48 boards to Cal's 33. Cal scored a season-low 47 points and Wilcox held his man, Tyrone Wallace to zero points.
On Saturday, Wilcox finished one shy of tying his career high with 27 points, including 11 of the team's last 15, as Washington escaped Stanford with a 65-60 win. He scored the Huskies final five points to extend a 60-58 lead with 1:41 left to play and seal the victory. Wilcox set a new career high with 9 rebounds, had 2 blocks and was 10 of 16 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range.
Wilcox currently ranks among the conference's leaders in scoring, minutes, three-point makes, three-point field goal percentage and blocked shots.
