SEATTLE - A public memorial service for former University of Washington rowing coach Dick Erickson will be held next Tuesday, July 31, at the Conibear Shellhouse on the UW campus. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
A private, family service will be held on Monday.
Erickson, who entered the Husky Hall of Fame as both a rower and a coach, died Wednesday at his home in Marysville. After serving as a rower on the 1958 varsity eight boat that was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1984, Erickson went on to coach the UW crew from 1968 to 1987. He was entered the Hall of Fame as a coach in 1994. After retiring from coaching, Erickson had served as facilities manager at Washington for the last 14 years.
Those wishing to attend Tuesday's service should plan to park in the large parking lot (E-1) on Montlake Blvd., a short walk from the Shellhouse.
In lieu of flowers, the Erickson family has asked that contributions be made to the newly established Dick Erickson Scholarship Fund, which will benefit the UW's men's and women's crew programs. Contributions (checks should be made out to the University of Washington) can be sent to the following address:
