Husky quarterback Johnny Durocher talked with gohuskies.com about last Saturday's scrimmage and the progress of the football team during Spring Football.

On Saturday's scrimmage:
"The scrimmage was a little rough for the offense, the defense got after it, played really hard, played really well. That's about all you can say about; they beat us. It was just the case of the defense coming out and playing really well. There have been times in the spring where [the offense] have gotten after them a little bit. And I think Saturday we ran the football pretty well for the most part. Kenny, J.R. and Louis took off on some big runs and when we get things going we can move the football."

On having more experience at UW and in coach Tyrone Willingham's system:
"A lot more comfortable not only with the system, but with the guys in the locker room. Stuff like that all makes a difference."

On the feeling in the locker room:
"I don't know if positive is the word. There is more of a feeling of, 'Lets get after it.' We had a really good winter. We got after it in the winter with what were doing, workouts and mat drills and that type of thing. We came out and the first probably seven practices the offense really came out and played well. I think the attitude has been really good, and guys are fired up and ready to play football for the most part."

On the talent in the program:
"There are times when guys will make plays and you sit back and go, 'We're just one play from being really good or we're one person's job away from being really good.' That was the case last year where in a couple games we were a play here or a play there away from winning a game. I think now we're making those plays."

On new guys filling different roles:
"It's been normal because you lose guys like we lost, some leaders on our team, and everybody knows it's our turn to step up now. That's kind of been the attitude. You never want to lose guys, but at the same time you know it's going to happen. So you guys have to step in and fill their shoes."

On the summer and beyond:
"I know the offense is going to pick it up a little bit. Whenever our next scrimmage is, we're going to get after those guys and get a little payback."

On the spring game:
"I'm looking forward to just getting out and playing in front of people in a competitive type of environment. We always keep our drills competitive, but at the same time we know that it is practice, whereas I think the spring game is as close as you can get to to playing in a real game. It's fun to get out there and play in front of people and if you play well in the spring game you got that the whole summer to hang over [the defense], so I'm looking forward to it."
