INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced today the participants in the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, and as expected the field includes four Husky track standouts, all of whom rank in the top-eight in their respective events.
The championships will be held March 12-13 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The University of Arkansas will serve as the host.
Roth is the No. 1-ranked vaulter in the NCAA and has the top clearance by an American this year at 18-9 ¼. He is a three-time All-American though his best NCAA Indoor finish is 10th from 2008 so he will be aiming much higher than that. Roth will be trying to dethrone defending NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Champion Jason Colwick of Rice who has the second-best mark.
Tully-Doyle has been the biggest surprise for UW this track season, running a school-record 13:48.86 in the 5,000-meters two weeks ago at the MPSF Championships to go with a 7:56.68 time in the 3k that ranks second in school history. Tully-Doyle will be concentrating on the 5k this weekend. He had never hit an NCAA Provisional mark before this season but now finds himself ranked eighth in the 5k going to his first nationals.
Follett is heading to her third and final NCAA Indoor Championships, and is ranked second nationally in the mile run with her school-record time of 4:34.98. Follett is a three-time All-American indoors, and was sixth in the mile two years ago. Last year she placed fifth in the 3,000-meters and also ran on the distance medley relay.
Lawrence was the final addition to the NCAA field for UW, as she hit the Auto mark at the UW Final Qualifier just this past Saturday, running 9:08.74 for 3,000-meters, a time that ranks her fifth among 3k competitors in Fayetteville. The sophomore could have also qualified at 5,000-meters but will focus on the shorter distance. This is the second-straight NCAA Indoor meet for Lawrence, who was 12th at 3,000-meters a year ago.
ESPN360.com will stream portions of the championships live beginning at 8 p.m. Central time, Friday, March 12, and 6:10 p.m. Central time, Saturday, March 13.
