Cal Coach Jeff Tedford Comments on the Washington Huskies

On preparing for the Huskies:
"They're a pretty veteran group. They've been in this system for a couple years so they're probably more comfortable with it. They fly around and play very hard. They have a nice scheme and the coaches do a nice job with putting them in a position to be successful. We're really going to have to prepare well because they're a dangerous football team. They have speed at receiver, good running backs and a good offensive line. They get after you on defense; you don't see big scores put up against them. They don't give up a lot of points. They're a scary group and we're going to have to play well to be successful."

On the Cal offense:
"We try to have a little balance. Last week we did run the ball pretty well. I thought it was important for our offensive line to be physical last week, and they were. They answered that challenge. To have balance in our offense is very important, to where we can hand the ball off to our backs and run it downhill at you and then pull it out and be able to throw it too is very important to our balance and our success offensively."

On Nate Longshore:
"Nate has been playing very well and everything was going his way. He didn't have his best game the other day. He had a couple fumbled snaps and rushed a couple balls. I think it's good for Nate to see that each week out is a new week, and we need to prepare well each and every week. I think he was rushing things a little bit last week. He's looking forward to a good week in practice this week and getting back on track."

On the BCS rankings:
"We just have to keep playing one week at a time and see where it ends up. We've been down this road before. It's very important for us just to focus on how we play each and every week so we don't stub our toe. Each game on our schedule for the remainder of the season is very difficult, starting with this week. If you don't play at your full potential there's no question that they can ruin your day."

On facing Washington's backup quarterback:
"You have to defend their offense, not just one player. Isaiah (Stanback) was highly productive in their offense as far as pulling the ball down, but it's still their offense and you have to defend their offense. You have to defend their receivers and their running game, and you don't ignore the quarterback just because Isaiah's not in there. I'm sure whoever they have in there will be able to run the ball as well."

Cal Quarterback Nate Longshore on Washington
"They have a lot of different looks. We're definitely going to have to pay attention to the film this week and the game plan and try to narrow down what we expect to see. They have a lot of different defenses, similar to what we do, with the way they mix it up and they have all different types of coverages and looks."
