OREM, Utah - Utah Valley State scored 12 runs in the second inning to build a 14-0 lead and coasted to a 17-9 win over the Washington baseball team Friday night at Wolverine Stadium.

The Wolverines (19-24) have taken the first two games in the three-game, non-conference series. Washington fell to 20-20 on the year with the loss.

After taking a 2-0 lead with two runs in the first, the Wolverines exploded in the second, sending 16 batters to the plate and scoring 12 runs on 10 hits off of three UW pitchers. The big hit of the inning was a grand slam from first baseman Adam Openshaw.

Washington got on the scoreboard with two runs in both the third and fourth. Michael Burgher's RBI double drove in the first run and Curt Rindal and Matt Hague connected on back-to-back home runs to lead off the fourth.

Husky starter Nick Haughian fell to 3-6 with the loss. In an inning of work, he allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks.

UVSC's Dan Christensen (3-5) went five innings for the win, allowing four runs on five hits.

Every Wolverines starter had a hit and scored a run. UVSC got four hits from Derrick Thomas, three each from Austin Heaps and Scott Crowshaw, as well as two each from five other players.

Hague, Jake Rife, Matt Stevens and Brett Wilcox each had two hits to lead Washington's offense. UW freshman Bryce Anderson hit a pinch-hit homer in the ninth, the first of his career.
