Washington's Brad Walker tied for first in the pole vault Saturday at the United Heritage Invitational at Boise State University. The Husky senior was the only UW athlete competing at the meet, as the rest of the team rests in preparation for the UW Invitational, Feb. 15 at Dempsey Indoor.
A two-time All-American in the event, Walker's mark of 17'-0" equaled that of Arizona's Kevin Opalka.
Walker, the all-time school-record holder indoors and outdoors in the event, and the NCAA runner-up in 2002, boasts a season-best vault of 17-8 1/2 from January's Pole Vault Summit that currently equals the second-best vault in the nation this season.
Walker and his UW teammates will return to competition next weekend at the UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor, featuring the best of Washington track and field against teams from Arizona State, Cal, Oregon, Stanford, and many more.
The 5,000-meter and distance medley relay events will be contested Friday night, Feb. 14, with all other events Saturday. Check www.gohuskies.com for a complete event schedule later this week.
