Three members of the UW football team have received official invitations to postseason senior all-star games, as the Senior Bowl officially announced its invitation to Jake Locker and Mason Foster today.
Earlier, safety Nate Williams accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game.
The Senior Bowl, held annually at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., will be played on January 29 this year. Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. PT and the game will air live on the NFL Network.
The teams have not yet been separated into North and South squads, but the two teams will be coached by the staffs from the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals. Practices begin Jan. 24 in Mobile.
Foster, a four-year letterman linebacker from Seaside, Calif., wrapped up his Husky career by being named the defensive MVP of the Holiday Bowl, a 19-7 Husky win over Nebraska. Foster, a first-team All-Pac-10 selection, notched 12 tackles in that game to finish the season with 163, the most by a Pac-10 player since 1989.
Locker, a quarterback from Ferndale, Wash., capped his UW career by leading the Huskies to that win over Nebraska, when he rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown. Locker finished his college career as the No. 1 rushing quarterback in Husky history and ranked No. 2 on most of the UW career passing charts.
Williams, a strong safety from Renton, Wash., was a four-year letterman for the Huskies. In 2010, he earned second-team All-Pac-10 and finished the year with 105 total tackles. He'll play on the West team in the East-West Shrine Game. Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips will take charge of that squad.
The 86th Annual East-West Shrine Game will be played at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., on Jan. 22. A week of activities and practices get underway Jan. 16 in Orlando, culminating with the game at 1:00 p.m. PT. It will also air on the ESPN Network.
Rosters for the NFLPA Game (formerly the Texas vs. the Nation Game) and the Eastham Energy College All-Star Game have yet to be announced.
