SEATTLE - Junior Elliott Cribby held Cal to two runs in the longest outing of his career as the Washington baseball team beat California, 12-2, in the second game of a three-game, Pac-10 series Saturday at Husky Ballpark.
Cribby, a right-hander from Lake Washington High, improved to 2-2 with the win. He gave up eight hits over eight innings, walking one and striking out five. His previous long outing was a seven and one-third innings performance last year.
The win improved the Huskies' record to 28-27 overall and 10-13 in Pac-10 play. Cal fell to 29-25 and 12-11 in the conference. The teams' weekend series is tied at one win apiece.
Cal's Alex Rollin (8-5) didn't make it out of the first inning in the loss. In his two-thirds of an inning, he gave up five runs on five hits.
Cal opened the game with a run in the first as Rich Gorman led off with a double and eventually came in on a groundout.
In the bottom of the first, Bradley Boyer and Brett Wilcox singled to begin the Huskies' half of the inning. Hague followed with his 12th home run of the year, a towering fly ball over the left-center field fence.
After an out, Trevor Petersen reached on a single and an error and scored on a single from Brian Pearl. Pearl advanced to second on a wild pitch and then scored on a two-out single from Matt Stevens, giving the Huskies a 5-1 lead after one.
The UW added a sixth run in the third when Rindal was hit by a pitch and eventually came in to score on a two-out single from Rasmussen.
Quiet since the first, Cal got back on the board in the seventh when right fielder Blake Smith, who had doubled and singled in his first two at bats, led off the inning with his sixth home run just inside the right-field foul pole.
However, the Huskies got that run back in the bottom of the seventh on a Stevens sacrifice fly. In the eighth, Washington added five more on Rindal's 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot to left-center, an RBI double from Pearl and a two-run homer from Rasmussen, his 10th.
The Huskies and Bears close out the 2007 regular season Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game, which will air live on KKNW AM-1150.
