THIS WEEK: The Washington baseball team (27-24 overall, 11-16 in the Pac-12) closes out the 2012 regular season with four games this week against local rivals. First up, the Huskies travel across Lake Washington to Bannerwood Park in Bellevue for a Tuesday game vs. Seattle University (22-27). First pitch is 6:00 p.m. The Huskies and Redhawks have split two prior meeting this season, with SeattleU winning, 5-1, on Feb. 22 and the Huskies earning a 6-0 victory on April 17. Both of those games were at Husky Ballpark. This weekend, the UW welcomes cross-state rival Washington State (26-26, 11-16 Pac-12) for a three-game series. Game times are 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, the final day of the 2012 regular season. Next Monday, the NCAA will unveil the 64-team tournament field on its annual selection show at 9:00 a.m. on ESPNU. NCAA Regional action begins June 1. COACH MEGGS: Lindsay Meggs is in his third season as head coach at Washington. This spring, one of his chief accomplishments has come to fruition with the opening of the new baseball team building at Husky Ballpark - a clubhouse, coaches' offices, training room, equipment room and donor area overlooking the field. Meggs came to the UW after having spent the previous three seasons at Indiana State and the 13 prior to that at Chico State, where he won NCAA Division II national championships in 1997 and 1999. He helped Chico to the D-II College World Series seven times and won the league eight times. At Indiana State, he was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 after guiding the Sycamores to a second-place finish, their highest since 1998. Currently, he boasts a 687-396-4 record over 18 seasons as a four-year college head coach. He'd previously served as head coach at Long Beach City College and Oxnard College. Born in San Jose and a graduate of Saratoga (Calif.) High, Meggs played four seasons as the starting third baseman at UCLA. He was drafted by the Brewers in 1983, and then again by the Royals after his senior year in 1984. Meggs is joined by assistant coaches Dave Nakama, Dave Dangler and Jordon Twohig.
