SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team rallied from 7-1 down to draw within two, but couldn't complete the comeback as 16th-ranked Arizona State beat the Huskies, 8-5, Sunday to earn a 2-1 series win at Husky Ballpark.

ASU starter Brian Flores (5-1) picked up the win, giving up five runs on eight hits over seven-plus innings. UW sophomore Tyler Cheney (1-2) gave up five runs over three innings for the loss.

Senior Curt Rindal led the Huskies at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in while Bradley Boyer was 3-for-5 with one RBI. ASU's Brett Wallace had four hits and Ike Davis drove in three.

Arizona State jumped out to a quick lead with three runs in the top of the first inning. After a hit batter and a single, Wallace doubled down the right-field line to score one. A second run came in on a groundout from Davis and a third on a single from catcher Kiel Roling.

The UW got one run back in the bottom of the first as leadoff hitter Boyer hit the first pitch he saw back through the middle for a single and eventually scored on a Rindal sacrifice fly.

The Sun Devils tacked on two more in the third and one in the fourth. In the third, Davis doubled to drive in a pair of runs and, in the fourth, a sac fly from Matt Smith sent home another, giving ASU a 6-1 lead.

After ASU added another in the fifth, the Huskies got a solo homer from Rindal in the sixth inning, his sixth of the season. Washington added another run later in the sixth on an RBI double from catcher Joey Dunn, cutting the lead to 7-3.

Washington continued to rally in the eighth, loading the bases with one out. With ASU closer Jason Jarvis on, Husky sophomore Trevor Petersen drove in one run with a sacrifice fly. Another run came in on a two-out single from Boyer, but Jarvis got a strikeout to end the inning with the Devils in front, 7-5. Jarvis allowed one hit in the ninth, but still earned his second save.

ASU catcher Kiel Roling hit a solo homer in the top of the ninth to add to the lead.

Next up for the UW is a Thursday-through-Saturday series at UCLA. All three games from Jackie Robinson Stadium are scheduled to air live on KKNW AM-1150.
