Washington's game captains for today's game were center Juan Garcia, tight end Michael Gottlieb, defensive tackle Johnie Kirton and defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim. In 11 games this season, Te'o-Nesheim has served as a captain nine times and Garcia seven times.
Redshirt freshman Skyler Fancher earned his first college start, making him the 44th different Husky player to start at least one game this year for the UW. He's the 23rd different Husky to pick up his first career start this season.
UW redshirt freshman tailback Willie Griffin's second-quarter touchdown was the first of his UW career.
Griffin, making his second start of the season at tailback, notched a new career highs with 26 carries for 112 yards. His previous career highs were three carries for 21 yards (both at Arizona earlier this season). He had passed those marks early in the UW's second drive of the game, at about the 10:00 mark of the first quarter.
Griffin's 86 yards at halftime marked the second-most rushing yards in a game by a Husky this year, after Terrance Dailey's 102 vs. Oregon State. Griffin's 112 total rushing yards were indeed the most by any UW runner this season.
With a 10-0 lead at halftime, Washington led a game at the end of a quarter for the first time this season.
Washington State punted for the fifth time today early in the third quarter. That fifth punt established a new season high for Husky opponents this year. The Cougars finished the game with six punts.
The Huskies reached a season high with four sacks, good for 23 yards.
