Box Score

SEATTLE - A day after failing to score in a 1-0 loss to Washington, the 18th-ranked Arizona baseball team turned the tables on Washington Saturday at Husky Ballpark, blanking the Huskies, 5-0, behind a strong starting pitching performance from David Coulon.

The Wildcats (15-10 overall and 3-5 in the Pac-10) drew even in the three-game series with the win while the Huskies fell to 19-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Coulon (5-2) went the distance for the win, holding the Huskies to seven hits and one walk while striking out five.

Husky sophomore Cam Nobles (2-1) suffered the loss despite a solid starting outing. In his six and two-thirds innings, the righty from Jackson High allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits while striking out six.

Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as a sacrifice fly from Dillon Baird drove in Colt Sedbrook.

It wasn't until the top of the seventh before another run came across. Arizona had runners at first and third on a hit batter and a single and Rafael Valenzuela's safety squeeze bunt brought T.J. Steele home to make it a 2-0 Wildcats lead. After a second out and a walk, Diallo Fon singled to drive in another and, on the same play, an errant throw from the outfield allowed another to score, giving Arizona a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the eighth, Arizona first baseman C.J. Ziegler led off the inning by lining his 10th homer of the season down the left-field line to make it a 5-0 lead. Ziegler went 3-for-4 with a double and a homer.

Huskies Aaron Russell had three hits and David Bentrott added two to lead the UW offense.

The Huskies and Wildcats conclude the three-game series Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game at Husky Ballpark. The game will air live on KKNW AM-1150.
