Box Score

PROVO, Utah - Washington got home runs from Troy Scott, Jacob Lamb and Miles Kizer to open up an early lead and then held on for a 12-10 win over BYU Saturday at Miller Field. The game was called after six innings due to snow.

The Huskies (7-7) got started quickly in the top of the first. After Bradley Boyer led off with a walk and moved to second on a bunt, Scott belted his first homer of the season. Pierce Rankin followed with a single and Lamb hit the first home run of his UW career to make it 4-0. Two walks and an RBI single from shortstop David Bentrott staked the Huskies to a 5-0 lead in the first.

In the second, Lamb came through again, this time lacing a two-run single to left-center to bring in Scott and Caleb Brown, increasing the lead to 7-0.

BYU (6-8) got on the scoreboard for the first time in the bottom of the second when Ryan Bernal led off with his third homer of the year.

Washington continued to roll in the third as a double from Rankin brought in two more and a single from Aaron Russell drove in another to up the Husky advantage to 10-1.

Bernal added his second RBI with a two-out single in the bottom of the third to cut it to 10-2.

Washington got its third homer of the day when Kizer, a junior-college transfer catcher, hit the first of his UW career out to right out lead off the fourth. In the fifth, Lamb singled and scored on a double from Russell to make it 12-2.

BYU scored one in the fifth and then chipped into the Husky lead in a big way with seven runs in the sixth thanks to a three-run homer from Alex Wolfe, a solo shot from Bryce Ayoso, Bernal's second homer of the day, this one with one aboard, and an RBI single to close the gap to 12-10.

However, any BYU hopes for completing the comeback were dashed when the snow came and ended the game before the start of the seventh.

Lamb finished the day 3-for-4 with four runs batted in. Five Huskies added two hits each: Brown, Scott, Rankin, Russell and Bentrott.

Washington starter Andrew Kittredge improved to 3-1 with the victory. He struck out eight in five and one-third innings before running into trouble in the sixth. BYU starter Chunner Nyberg suffered the loss for the Cougars to drop to 0-2 on the season.

The Huskies next return home for a three-game series vs. Cal State Fullerton Friday through Sunday at Husky Ballpark.
