SEATTLE -- No. 48 Washington's upset effort fell just short on Friday, falling 4-3 to No. 21 Arizona State. The outcome came down to the final match, but Natali Coronel fell in a tiebreak after holding off multiple match points.

The Dawgs began the afternoon by winning the doubles point. Coronel and Grace Ysidora started it off by dominating their match at No. 2, winning 8-2. Elianne Douglas-Miron and Julija Lukac and Andjela Nemcevic made it a clean sweep, winning the finals doubles match in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7-5).

In singles, the Dawgs got off to a good start when Julija Lukac won in straight sets. Lukac fought back to win the first set, 7-5, before dominating the second set, 6-1.

Arizona State then won a pair of matches in straight sets to even the score at 2-2. Ranked players Jacqueline Cako and Desirae Krawczyk defeated Nemcevic and Ysidora at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

The match would come down to a best two out of the three for the final three matches, each of which went three sets.

The Sun Devils took the lead after Joanna Smith defeated Shimizu, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, at the No. 6 singles spot. However, the Dawgs bounced back to tie it at 3-3, when Douglas-Miron won her match. Douglas-Miron battled to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Leighann Sahagun. She showed her fight particularly up 4-2 in the third when she survived several break points in the longest game of the match to prevail.

All tied up at 3-3, Coronel needed to beat Ebony Panoho to win it for Washington. Down 6-5 in the third, Coronel survived two match points to get to the tiebreak. However, it was not to be as Panoho survived the tiebreak, winning 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).

The Dawgs will be back in action on Saturday when they host Arizona at noon.
