SEATTLE - The newly-minted 2009 IRA National Champion Washington Husky men's crew will be at Safeco Field Saturday for a special pre-game celebration, including the ceremonial first pitch, to be tossed out by a member of the national champion varsity eight.
The varsity eight pieced together an amazing come-from-behind win at the 2009 IRA National Championship regatta on June 6, rallying back from nine seats down to take the crown, capping a day in which the Huskies swept the eights races and won gold in the open four and silver in the varsity four. Washington became the first team to sweep the eights since the UW last accomplished that feat in 1997.
First pitch is slated for 7:00pm Saturday and game time against the Arizona Diamondbacks of the NL West is 7:10pm. Saturday is also Ken Griffey Jr. T-shirt night. The first 15,000 fans through the gate will receive a Ken Griffey Jr. t-shirt, courtesy of Trader Joe's.
