PALO ALTO, Calif. - Sophomore Jake Schmitt led a small group of Huskies over the weekend at the Stanford Invitational, posting an NCAA Provisional qualifying time in the 10,000-meters.

While nearly all of their teammates were in Eugene, Ore. to compete in the Pepsi Team Invitational, Schmitt, Riley Booker, and Trisha Rasmussen headed farther south to Stanford to run the 10K, which was not offered at the Pepsi Invite.

Schmitt ran 28:56.05 in the top flight, placing 18th but ninth among current collegiate runners. It is the third-best 10,000-meter run in Washington history, and just the fourth under 29-minutes.

Schmitt's mark is well under the NCAA provisional qualifying mark needed for consideration for the NCAA Championships and just 11 seconds short of the automatic mark. The 10K NCAA field is determined by top times and not regional competition like most other events.

Booker, a redshirt freshman, was 10th in the third section of the 10K, finishing in 30:54.47.

Rasmussen, a senior, placed 25th in the top flight of the 10K on the women's side, with a time of 35:01.64, a personal best and the eigth-best mark in school history. Her time was just short of the provisional time of 35-flat.
