NCAA First Round Game - Rose Garden, Portland, Ore.
March 19, 2009
No. 4 Washington vs. No. 13 Mississippi State

  • Jon Brockman recorded his 59th career double-double (19th of the season) on Thursday with 10 points and 14 rebounds. He is the NCAA's active leader in double-doubles. It was also his 22nd double-figure rebounding game in 2008-09.

  • This is the 11th time this season that Brockman has pulled down 14 or more rebounds.

  • Brockman's 14 rebounds represent the most by a Husky player in a NCAA Tournament game during the Romar era.

  • Quincy Pondexter set a career season-high with 23 points. His previous best was 22 against USC (2/21/09).

  • Washington has now won three straight NCAA Tournament first round games (2005, 2006).

  • Brian Johnson tied a career high with six rebounds.

  • Thursday marked the 18th time this season that Jarvis Varnado recorded at least five blocks in a game. Vardano finished the season as the Mississippi State career leader in blocked shots with 394. In SEC history, he trails only Shaquille O'Neal, who had 412 blocks for Louisiana State from 1990-92. Varnado's 170 blocks on the year is a Mississippi State and SEC single-season record.

  • Mississippi State had a season-low five assists.

  • This was the third straight NCAA Tournament that Mississippi State has faced a team from the Pacific-10 Conference. In 2005, The Bulldogs defeated Stanford 93-70 in 2005 and Oregon 76-69 in 2008 prior to Thursday's game with Washington.
