Coach Sylvia Hatchell, North Carolina
"We are looking forward to playing Gonzaga. We played them three years ago in a tournament and they were an excellent team then as they are now. We like the pace that they play. They play an up tempo game. It should be a fun game, and hopefully a high scoring game."
On the transition from the end of the season to the NCAA tournament
"They know that in the NCAA tournament everyone is equal. They know that every team is very good, and it is not really about the rankings and the seeds, but it is just about who plays the best basketball in the 40 minutes spent on the court. We play in the ACC tournament and I think that helps us to prepare for about anything. This team knows that they can play very well.
"Our players are just so young. We have five freshmen who have never been to a NCAA tournament before, and this is great experience for them, but we have to know that if you go out on the court and don't have your best day then the season is going to be over. Every team that is here is very good and wants to advance."
On Courtney Vandersloot
"She is a do it all type of player. She is a great ball handler, she can shoot the ball, she is very aggressive, and she is without a doubt one of the best guards in the country."
G Italee Lucas, Jr.
On playing across the country and potentially taking on Gonzaga who has a strong local following "I am from the West Coast so it is kind of a good thing for me. My dad and some of my other family members will be out this way. As far as having the home court advantage, we have been in situations like that, the court is the same, the ball is the same, so it is just going to be a fun game."
Coming in as the No. 10 seed
"When tournament play comes, I don't know if you've watched a lot of the men's, but the seeding doesn't really matter at this point. We pretty much are just coming out to play hard and hopefully get the upset."
G Cetera DeGraffenreid, Jr.
"We know that they are a pretty good team, clearly because they are in the NCAA Tournament. We know that they have played some pretty tough teams and had some close games with them. For us we, we have to keep focusing on the things we have focused on all year. Things that we know we need to do and that we have done in practice."
F/C Chay Shegog, So.
On the game
"At this point right now, I'm just really focused on our team. We know what we have to do to beat this team, we have an excellent game plan set up by our coaches, we just have to go out and execute."
On what they have to do to beat Gonzaga
"Definitely rebounding, playing hard, and knowing how to guard each player." On stopping Courtney Vandersloot
"We definitely have to respect her shot. She's good both ways but we have to play to her weaker side, we gotta know when she's coming off screens and stuff like that. If we do that, we'll be alright."
G She'la White, So.
On the game
"We are going to stay with the same game plan we have been using. We are going to play our game and fast break. I think that if we can contain Courtney Vandersloot and get her out of the flow of the game then we can have them game, but if we play our game then we will have the game. Right now we really just need to focus.
On the trip across the country
"I don't think that the environment will be that big of a problem for us. I mean we play road games, and have played at some tough arenas. The only hard part of the trip might be the time difference and the loss of sleep. I don't think that the trip here will be a problem."
The feeling of being in the NCAA tournament
"I think that our coaching staff has just kept emphasizing that this is a new season and we are starting over. We just need to come out strong."
