SOPHOMORE GUARD Brandon Roy
On the last play ("alley-oop"):
"It was a play where coach wanted me to post up whoever was guarding me. I started out close to the baseline, and then spun away from him to get closer to the rim."
On a possible foul call:
"I did think I was fouled. He (the Bruin defender), didn't make a play on the ball. He just tried to shield me from the ball. I think that is a foul."
On the comeback:
"We were down quite a bit. People were leaving early during the USC games and tonight I looked in the stands when we were down by 10 points, and it was happening again. I was real upset. I asked coach to let me be up front on the press where Bobby Jones usually is. We were able to get a lot of turnovers from that, and we made the comeback."
On the crowd:
"The crowd was great. I have never heard it louder than that. We have played at Stanford and Cal and it wasn't as loud there. I had to stand next to Will Conroy and yell in his ear because it was so loud. It was great to be a part of it."
WASHINGTON HEAD COACH Lorenzo Romar
"I am proud of our guys and the way we competed tonight. Our guys did not quit. We fought real hard and scrapped. Will Conroy had a monster game. Five assists 29 points and seven rebounds is impressive. I'm just proud of our guys."
On the last play:
"We tried to throw the ball to the rim for Brandon Roy. Maybe he got bumped. With the amount of time left, that was all we could get off. We got a good look, and we thought we had it."
On the comeback:
"I thought when we spread the floor and allowed our guards to penetrate, it coincided with our defensive pressure. I thought our pressure really picked up and it gave us some energy and really got us going."
UCLA HEAD COACH BEN HOWLAND
"I thought that we played very well until the second half, when they started to beat us off the dribble. I have to commend them, they really made a valiant comeback. I'm just glad we were able to hang on and get the win. We had way too many turnovers and 24 turnovers is way too many. We are very happy to be four and zero on a nine day stretch, I couldn't be prouder of the ways our guys handled the adversity."
On Washington's team:
"We knew that they were going to make a comeback, it was inevitable. They have good players and they are well coached. I feel for them, because I really respect Lorenzo. They really played their hearts out and it was a hell of a basketball game."
On Washington guard Will Conroy:
"Conroy had a career day. He kept hurting us on the dribble. That was the key when they were mounting their comeback, we couldn't guard them off the dribble."
