WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington junior left-handed pitcher Nick Haughian has been named Pitcher of the Week Stanford junior outfielder and left-handed pitcher Sean Ratliff has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week and for April 1 - 7, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Haughian, from Marysville, Wash., threw a complete game, two-hit shutout in the Husky's 1-0 win over 18th-ranked Arizona last Friday. He only allowed two base hits and three walks while shattering his old career-high with 15 strikeouts.
Ratliff, from Longmont, Colo., helped lead the Cardinal to three victories and a two-of-three series win over No. 1 Arizona State, finishing with a .381 batting average, three homers and nine RBI. He also added two doubles, a triple, six runs scored and a 1.000 slugging percentage. In addition, he extended his hit streak to a career-high-tying 13 games before finally having the run snapped in Sunday's finale.
The Player of the Week honor is the second of Ratliff's career, and the 62nd such honor for Stanford. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first for Haughian, and the 40th selection all-time for Washington.
