SEATTLE - Two-time defending NAIA champion Lewis-Clark State handed Washington's Shawn Kohn his first loss of the season, scoring two runs off of the Husky ace in a relief outing for a 5-4 win in a non-conference game Wednesday night at Husky Ballpark.

The Warriors (42-10) got a strong starting performance from Nick Gravelle (6-2), who allowed three earned runs on eight hits in eight innings. Ben Royce threw a scoreless ninth to pick up his first save. Kohn fell to 4-1 on the year after allowing two runs on seven hits in five innings of work. He fanned eight in the game and walked only one.

L-C State took a 3-0 lead off of Husky starter Sean White, who was making his first appearance in a month after experiencing shoulder tendonitis. In the second, the Warriors used an infield single and an error to drive in runs with the bases loaded. In the third, Mike Madrid doubled to score Matt Hellman to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.

Washington got back into the game in the fifth. With one down, Tila Reynolds tripled past a diving right fielder to send home two runs. Reynolds scored on Tyler Davidson's sacrifice fly.

The Warriors got back on top in the sixth when catcher Gabe Stajduhar led off with a homer off of Kohn, who had his streak of 33 straight innings without allowing an earned run snapped. Kohn entered the day as the nation's leader with an earned run average of 0.78.

L-C State got another run off of Kohn in the seventh as Mike Madrid singled home Kurt Koshelnik, a former Husky who last played at the UW 1997, to give the Warriors a 5-3 edge.

The Huskies closed the gap in the seventh when Reynolds singled, moved to second on an error, to third on a passed ball and scored on a Jay Garthwaite single.

Madrid finished 3-for-5 with two doubles while Stajduhar was 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Warriors. Reynolds and Michael Done each had two hits for the Huskies.

The Huskies and Warriors play the second of the two-game series Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. before the Huskies travel to face Washington State in a three-game series this weekend.
