University of Washington Basketball vs. Eastern Washington
December 20, 2008 * Postgame Quotes

Washington Head Coach Lorenzo Romar
"Our guys overall did a pretty good job today. We had a few careless turnovers, but overall we kept our turnovers down. It was good to have Jon back out there. He obviously wasn't 100 percent, but it was good to have him back. He's got two days to rest again before we get out and play Lehigh.

"When you play at home you can be energized by a crowd, especially our crowd, but at the same time you can't rely on that. You've got to rely on what is within and I thought our guys did a pretty good job at that. We played right. I felt like grabbing the mic and thanking all the fans that we here for coming out. We really appreciate the people coming out and supporting us. For those who were able to come we appreciate it"

Washington forward Jon Brockman
"I'm alright (when asked about his sprained ankle). I didn't have the lift and the lateral movement, but it was good to get back out there. I didn't hurt it any worse. So now I'll go get treatment on it. We're just taking it day-by-day with the treatment. As long as we keep that up and don't take any steps backward it shouldn't be too long until I'm back. It was one of those things where we tested it out at the beginning to see how it felt and it felt good.

"I don't know what it was. I was getting good looks. I felt like I made good post moves to get to the rim, but I just didn't have the same lift. I just came out in the second half focused. It really hasn't changed a lot. The ankle still hurts a little, but it is in the same spot.

"It's a good opportunity to make ourselves energize each other. It really felt like a road game. You don't see it empty very often. I'm sure everyone wanted to come to the game. But hopefully we post on a good show for them at home watching on T.V."

Eastern Washington Head Coach Kirk Earlywine
"I thought physically that we were competitive enough. Washington is an unbelievable rebounding team. I liked our level of competitiveness. At times our zone helped us a little bit. But when you turn the ball over and you turn it over directly to points, that's pretty tough to overcome. You couple that with the fact that Washington shot 29 more free throws than we did; that is pretty tough to overcome.

"I thought in our eagerness to compete that we fouled. The number of free throws that Washington shot didn't catch my eye as much as how few we did." "In a lot of ways we started the season over again last week in Hawaii and we certainly have looked like it. I'm not nearly as disappointed after this game tonight as I was after the Hawaii game and after the UMKC game.

"Good question. We had two different bus companies here. One of us told us this afternoon that they wouldn't take us back tonight so we called another one that said they would. Now after the game they are telling us they won't take us back tonight either so we're stuck here. The [hotel] we were at is already sold out so we are not going back there."
