SEATTLE - The Washington football team opened its first full day of fall camp Monday, though the squad has yet to take the field for its first practice.
The Huskies spent the day completing a variety of tasks, many of them having to do with all of the various paperwork that comes with being an NCAA student-athlete these days.
After having checked into the dorms Saturday (newcomers) and Sunday (returners), the players woke up early for breakfast. Following an orientation session that included going over the schedule for the coming few weeks and getting an overview of the entire fall camp period, players attended academic and rules meetings until lunch.
In the afternoon, the squad broke into groups and spent their time either in the weight room or checking out equipement. That was followed by a meeting to go over the rules changes made this year to the game (you'll certainly hear a lot about new instant replay rules and the new format for starting and stopping the clock), it was time for dinner.
In the evening, the Dawgs will attend offense, defense and special teams meetings before going to bed, all in preparation for the first practice of the 2006 season tomorrow afternoon.
