Husky Tracksters Complete Day Two of Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa--Day two of the Drake Relays brought the Husky track teams improved marks and experience running against the nation's best relay teams Friday.

On the women's side, junior Heather Reichmann improved her season-best mark in the javelin by three inches to claim fourth place in the event with a toss of 147-8. Her previous best came April 14 at the Oregon Dual.

Juniors Megan Spriestersbach (Lakewood, Wash.) and Kelsey Sheppard (Bellevue, Wash.) each earned seventh-place finishes for the Huskies in their respective events. Spriestersbach recorded a mark of 138-11 in the javelin, while Sheppard clocked a 59.74 in the finals of the 400m hurdles. Sheppard ran a season-best 58.75 in her preliminary heat of the event Thursday.

The distance medley relay team of Susan Werner (Jr., Boise, Idaho), Chelsie Pentz (Sr., Kitsap, Wash.), Devin Golob (Fr., Vancouver, Wash.), and Anna Aoki (Sr., Vancouver, Wash.) finished ninth in the event with a time of 11:41.32.

The 4x100m relay team of Jamara Smith (So., Oakland, Calif.), Pentz, Tesha Moore (So., Everett, Wash.) and Zee Ogarro (Jr., Inglewood, Calif.) improved their season-best time by four tenths of a second despite not qualifying for the event finals. The quartet recorded a 46.16 in the event Friday. Their previous best, a 46.56, came at the UC Davis Quad meet March 24.

The quartet of Smith, Pentz, Moore and Ogarro also competed in the 4x200m relay at Drake, crossing the finish line in 1:38.84. The women did not advance to the event finals, despite finishing second in their heat.

The Husky distance corps provided the lone placewinner for the men in Friday's action at Drake. The 4xMile relay team of Jason Fayant (Jr., Spokane, Wash.), David Bazzi (Sr., Seattle, Wash./O'Dea), Dustin Duke (RS-Fr., Bothell, Wash.) and Hendrik Kok (Fr., Lynden, Wash.) took fifth in the event, clocking a time of 16:51.53.

Senior Greg Barber (McKinney, TX) improved his best legal mark of the season in the 110m hurdles at Drake Friday. Barber, who's previous non-wind aided mark was a 14.71, boasted a 14.62 in his preliminary heat. He did not advance the finals.

The 4x100m relay team of D'Andrae Alexander (So., Sacramento, Calif.), Mark James (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Greg Forni (So., Spokane, Wash.) and Brad Goodrich (Fr., Maple Valley, Wash.) finished fourth in their heat of the event, clocking a 42.03, a second off of UW's season best.

The 4x200m relay team featuring Alexander and Forni along with Ryan Graham (Fr., Denver, Colo.) and Cristian Adams (Fr., Lakewood, Wash.) crossed the finish line in 1:27.91.

The Huskies continue competition at the Drake Relays Saturday. Other members of the Washington squads will be competing at the Oregon Invitational in Eugene, Saturday.
