WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington was tabbed to finish sixth in the 2005-06 Preseason Pac-10 women's basketball media poll, the conference announced Wednesday.
Stanford, returning two starters from last year's NCAA Tournament team, was picked to win the conference title. Stanford, which finished 32-3 and advanced to its second consecutive NCAA Elite Eight, garnered 10 first-place votes. UCLA earned two first-place votes and was picked to finish second, followed by USC which received one vote.
Arizona State was selected to finish fourth, followed by Oregon, Washington, Arizona, California, Washington State and Oregon State.
Four returning All-Pac-10 players were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team - Nikki Blue of UCLA, Brooke Smith and Candice Wiggins of Stanford and Emily Westerberg of Arizona State. UCLA guard Noelle Quinn, a Honorable Mention All-Conference selection who sat out the majority of last year due to injury, was also named to the team.
The Huskies open the 2005-06 season hosting an exhibition with Baden Sports, Sunday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at Bank of America Arena.
