SEATTLE - The University of Washington's home baseball game against Arizona on Fri., April 4, will be played at Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, the UW athletics department and the Mariners announced today. Last year, the Huskies beat eventual national champion Oregon State, 6-2, in front of 10,421 fans at Safeco Field in their first game at the Mariners' ballpark.
"We're very happy to be able to return to Safeco Field again this season," Husky head coach Ken Knutson said. "Last year's game was a great experience for the fans, and even more so for the players and coaches. Now that we've played there, I think we've learned a few things that should make it an even better time for everyone involved."
"We are pleased to welcome Husky Baseball back to Safeco Field. Last year's game was a big success and it demonstrated what a true community asset this ballpark is," said Chuck Armstrong, Seattle Mariners President and COO.
First pitch for the game is set for 6:30 p.m. KKNW AM-1150 will carry the radio broadcast of the game.
Tickets go on sale February 15 at the Husky Ticket Office, online at gohuskies.com, or by phone at (206) 543-2200. Tickets will also be available at the Safeco Field Box Office starting Saturday, March 1. The Husky Ticket Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (phones 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and the Safeco Field Box Office from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (both Monday through Friday).
All seating is general admission and tickets are $8 apiece. Group tickets are also available at $5 each (groups of 15-plus tickets) and are only available in advance through the Husky Ticket Office. Call the Husky Ticket Office at (206) 543-2200 for more information.
Additionally, UW students will be admitted free. Students must show their student ID at the Mariners Box Office on the day of the game to receive a free ticket.
Parking in the Safeco Field garage, located off of Edgar Martinez Way on the south side of the stadium, will be available for only $5 as long as space is available. The stadium gates at the Home Plate Gate to Safeco Field will open at 5:30 p.m., one hour before game time.
As with all Husky weekend home games, kids 12 and under will have the opportunity to take a lap around the bases following the game.
Last season's game at Safeco set a new Pac-10 attendance record for a conference game. The 10,421 fans also represented the second-largest crowd ever to watch a Husky baseball game, home or away. Arizona, this year's opponent, enters the 2008 season ranked No. 1 in the preseason Collegiate Baseball poll.
The UW-Arizona game on April 4 is the first game of a three-game, Pac-10 Conference series. Saturday and Sunday's game will take place at Husky Ballpark on the Washington campus at 2:00 p.m. Sat., April 5, and 1:00 p.m. on Sun., April 6. The Huskies open the 2007 season Fri., Feb. 22 at UC Riverside.
