SATURDAY-SUNDAY, March 25-26 --
at Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic

9:00 a.m. / Redwood Shores / Belmont, Calif.

Six crews of Washington rowers travel to the Bay Area this weekend to open the season at the two-day Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic. Most UW crew will have two races Saturday, Mar. 25 and another race, Sunday, Mar. 26 on the 2,000-meter Redwood Shores course in Belmont, Calif. Representing Washington are men's and women's varsity and junior varsity eights along with a men's freshman eight and a women's novice eight. Competition begins at 9 a.m. each day with Saturday's afternoon collegiate races starting at 3:15 p.m.

The Huskies' 2006 season opener features a unique racing format. Rather than rowing the course alongside several other boats as is customary, each crew will compete head-to-head with just one other boat in a match race. The Collegiate Classic is hosted for the fourth year by the same real estate company that has been a 20-year sponsor of the Windermere Cup, Washington's annual Opening Day regatta that takes place May 6 in Seattle.

Windermere Classic Data
The Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic will feature collegiate crews from twenty colleges across the nation in Henley-style rowing events. Henley-style is a one-on-one or a two-boat race. Also referred to as a match race, this format for competition is used at the Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, England. More than 100 individual races will take place between 9 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 on Sunday. In addition to the collegiate events on the slate, local high school and junior rowing clubs will also compete. All race events are free and open to the public, who are welcome to view racing from the shoreline and surrounding areas.

Classic Field
Numerous ranked teams form outstanding collegiate men's and women's fields for the Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic. There are eight teams entered in each of the four primary collegiate events (men's varsity eight and junior varsity eight along with women's varsity eight and junior varsity eight.)
