WASHINGTON HEAD COACH Lorenzo Romar
"All the hype about Gonzaga is true. They are a good basketball team. We have known that for a while and they proved it again here tonight. They are kind of like a machine. They know what they do and they know how to play and our hats are off to them. One of the things that we didn't think would be as big of an issue was. They really did a good job inside. We played well early. We had a few mental lapses defensively, and the ball wouldn't go down for us. Mentally we aren't at a point where we can fight through that against a really good team right now. I would say that we failed the exam. I don't think we will fail this season. This is something we will learn from and we will bounce back from this."
On Gonzaga's run in the last half of the first half:
"We gave up a few baskets. We have to learn that every possession is valuable. Maybe one time a defender tries to double on the ball and make a steal and it costs us. If a few things happen like that, then they are back in the game. We got to the foul line 35 times and couldn't convert. We weren't able to overcome that. I haven't seen the film yet though. My feelings are that if you play a team that's marginal, then you may be able to overcome that, but if you play a team like Gonzaga, you will pay for it. We paid for it tonight."
On Gonzaga's inside game:
"I knew they were good coming in. I didn't expect them to be that dominant tonight. None of their guys scored more than 20 points. Yet, when they got it inside they scored. They scored 54 points in the paint. I have not seen a number like that since I have been here."
