THIS WEEK: The Washington baseball team (27-26 overall, 10-14 in the Pac-10 Conference) closes out the 2010 regular season this weekend with a three-game series vs. USC (25-31 overall, 5-19 in the Pac-10) at Dedeaux Field in Los Angeles. Washington still has a shot of making the postseason, but even to qualify would require winning two out of three against the Trojans. The NCAA will announce the 64-team field for the Division I Baseball tournament next Monday, May 31, at 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time on ESPN. Game times this weekend at Dedeaux Field are 7:15 p.m. on Friday, 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday (note that some of those times are different than originally scheduled). There will be no radio coverage of the three games, but you can following along via Gametracker on gohuskies.com and USC does offer live video, though it's part of a subscription service. The UW will start freshman RHP Adam Cimber on Friday and sophomore RHP Andrew Kittredge on Saturday. Sunday's starter has yet to be determined. Here's a look at this weekend's action:

Fri., May 28: UW at USC, 7:15 p.m. - Live stats at gohuskies.com

COACH MEGGS: Lindsay Meggs was named the Huskies' new head coach in July of 2009, just the third different UW head coach in 34 years. Meggs came to the UW after having spent the last three seasons at Indiana State and the 13 prior to that at Chico State, where he won NCAA Division II national championships in 1997 and 1999. He helped Chico to the D-II College World Series seven times and won the league eight times. At Indiana State, he was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 after guiding the Sycamores to a second-place finish, their highest since 1998. Meggs currently boasts a 642-333-4 record over 17 seasons as a four-year college head coach. He'd previously served as head coach at Long Beach City College and Oxnard College. Born in San Jose and a graduate of Saratoga (Calif.) High, Meggs played four seasons as the starting third baseman at UCLA. He was drafted by the Brewers in 1983, and then again by the Royals after his senior year in 1984. Meggs is joined by assistant coaches Dave Nakama, Greg Moore and Kevin Ticen.

SERIES HISTORY: USC holds a 30-20 record in its all-time series vs. Washington. However, dating back to 1996, the Huskies are 20-16 against the Trojans. Washington has swept the last two series, last season in Seattle and in 2008 in L.A. USC won two of three last year in Seattle, taking the first two games, 8-5 and 5-2 before the Dawgs won, 6-0, on Sunday. Last year, the Huskies won 9-8, 3-0 and 3-2 in 10 innings. In the Huskies' last trip to Dedeaux Field, the UW won by scores of 5-4, 10-2 and 11-4.
