Junior All-American Brad Walker and senior hurdler Kelsey Sheppard, who excelled on the track for Washington in 2002, were honored for their classwork Thursday by conference Commissioner Tom Hansen as members of the Pac-10's Track and Field All-Academic First Team.

Senior high-jumper Frank Remund, and juniors Courtney Inman and Heather Reichmann were each honored on the second team, while honorable mention was given to sophomore Todd Arnold; juniors Kate Bradshaw, Kameko Gay, LeTesha Moore and Jeremy Park; and seniors Mike Hill, Marcus Kelly and Searan Salibian.

A two-time All-American and school-record holder in the pole vault, Walker maintains a 3.51 grade point average in business administration. In 2002, he became just the third Husky ever to clear 18 feet in the pole vault, earning a second-place finish at the 2002 NCAA Track and Field Championships with a vault of 18-feet, 2 1/2 inches, the best-ever by a Husky athlete. A graduate of Spokane's University High School, Walker has been honored for his academic work previously, earning second-team academic all-conference accolades in 2001.

Sheppard, a two-time Academic All-Pac-10 first-team honoree, graduated from UW this month with a 3.70 grade point average in business administration, capping an outstanding four-year career at Washington. This season, the Lake Washington High School graduate established Washington's indoor 400-meter and 60-meter hurdles records, and became just the fifth Husky woman ever to complete the 400 meters in under 59 seconds.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
