Box Score

BELLEVUE, Wash. - A fourth-inning, two-run homer from UW catcher Pierce Rankin and a two-out, two-run double from Troy Scott led the Washington baseball team to a 5-2 win over Seattle University Tuesday night at Bannerwood Park in the first game between the city rivals in 24 years.

Washington (8-10) and SeattleU (3-16) last played one another in 1986, the season after which the Redhawks dropped their program.

SeattleU scored the game's first run in the second when Josh Kalalau doubled off the left field fence, moved to third on a groundout and then came in on a Riley Tompkins sacrifice fly.

In the fourth, Husky third baseman Jacob Lamb reached on an error and Rankin followed with a home run to left, his second of the season, to put the Huskies on top, 2-1.

Washington, limited to just two hits through the first seven innings, finally stretched the lead in the eighth. After a pair of singles, Scott hit a two-out double to drive in two and then scored on an Andy Smith single to make it 5-1.

Tompkins had another sacrifice fly in the ninth to knock in the Redhawks' second run.

Washington starter Adrian Gomez went four innings, allowing one run on two hits, but didn't figure in the decision. Reliever Jacob Lamb (1-2) registered the victory with three innings of scoreless relief. Adam Cimber pitched the final two innings.

Redhawks starter Brandon Kizer (0-1) suffered the tough loss, allowing just one earned run on two hits over five and two-thirds innings.

Next up for the Huskies is a three-game series at Dallas Baptist this Thursday through Saturday. Washington and SeattleU square off again next Monday at Husky Ballpark at 5:00 p.m. in a game added to the schedule earlier this season.
