LOS ANGELES -

The Washington baseball team used a four-hit, complete-game shutout from Aaron West and a three-run second inning to beat USC, 7-0, Friday night in the first of a three-game series at Dedeaux Field.

Freshman first baseman Trevor Mitsui led the way for Washington (24-18 overall, 9-10 in the Pac-12) with three hits, two runs and an RBI. Jayce Ray was 3-for-5 with an RBI and Jacob Lamb added two hits and a run for the UW.

West, a junior from Snohomish, Wash., improved to 6-4 with the victory. After a scoreless seven innings last week at Utah, he pitched the first complete game of the year for the UW, limiting the Trojans to four hits (all singles) and no walks while striking out six.

USC freshman Nigel Nootbaar (1-1), making just his second college start, was charged with the loss. He worked just two and one-third innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits.

The Huskies got off the mark in the second inning. After loading the bases with no outs on singles from freshman Branden Berry and Mitsui, along with an error, freshman Robert Pehl singled through the right side to drive in the game's first run. However, Nootbaar struck out the next two batters to nearly get out of the jam, but Ray laced an opposite-field single to left to drive in a second run. Joe Meggs followed with single up the middle, plating Mitsui to stake the UW to a 3-0 lead.

In the third, Lamb doubled and scored on a single to left from Mitsui to increase the lead to 4-0. In the eight, Mitsui singled and eventually scored on a single from catcher B.K. Santy, upping the lead to 5-0.

Washington added two more runs in the ninth as Ray singled and scored on a two-out single from Berry, who crossed on a hit from Caleb Brown.

The Huskies and Trojans continue the series Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. game and the play Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
