Nicholls State vs. Washington
Head Coach Lorenzo Romar:
Opening Statement: "I think that the good news is that when we are focused and concentrating we give ourselves a chance to be successful. The bad news is that we haven't learned to concentrate for two halves at this point in the season. It is something that we have to build on and work on."
On turnovers: "They are not a huge concern, but they are a concern. These things have happened to us before when we have turned the ball over early. That becomes the number one question, what are we going to do about the turnovers? We need to get better at that. I think that a lot of the time that we were just negligent with our passes and the defender was right there. I thought that was the problem most of the time, we just need to be more crisp on our passing."
On being a young team: "You did things when you were younger that got yourself killed, but you didn't realize it. You were just having fun and there were no consequences. Sometimes that happens until you learn a couple times that if you do that again you are going to be in big trouble. The negatives about our team right now are the things that can be resolved. Each time we play we get better."
On challenges this season: "The thing is with this team is that there are going to be a number of different challenges that we haven't encountered yet that we are going to have to face together for the first time. Tomorrows game will be a challenge we haven't faced yet. The first challenge was yesterday when we played our first game. Tomorrows challenge is that we have to play a good team that knows how to win and they stick with what they are doing. To win a game like that is the first challenge. That's all a part of growing up and it's all a part of these non-conference games because they give you a chance to grow up, learn and teach."
On bench contribution: "If we play Franklin High School or the Las Angeles Lakers, Brandon Burmeister is going to play well. He is just steady and you can always count on him. He played like a senior out there today. Artem did a nice job today and he really got into there for the boards, he did a nice job for us."
On Spencer Hawes being in shape: "He's fine. When you are running on the floor more than you have in a month, the first night the adreneline is flowing. On the second night it catches up with you a lot of times. This is a good week for him to get back into playing shape. I would say by the end of this week he will be in good playing shape."
