SEATTLE - After each win, Coach Tyrone Willingham and the Husky football coaching staff will name players of the game, sponsored by Pepsi, for that week's performance. The first winners of the 2006 season, following the UW's 35-29 win over San Jose State are quarterback Isaiah Stanback, defensive end Greyson Gunheim, punter Sean Douglas, tailback Shelton Sampson and defensive end Fred Wiggs.
Stanback, a senior from Seattle, posted a career-high 102 yards rushing to spark the Huskies' to a team total of 300 rushing yards, while also completing 16-of-25 passes for 168 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also ran for one touchdown, a six-yard run in the third quarter.
Gunheim, a junior from Sebastopol, Calif., totaled five tackles for the Huskies. He recorded a team-high three tackles for loss, including one quarterback sack, and forced a fumble.
Douglas, a senior from Bellevue, Neb., punted three times for an average of 45.7 yards per punt. All three of his punts fell inside the Spartans' 20-yard line as the three ensuing San Jose State drives started at the 16, 2 and 15-yard lines.
Sampson, a senior from Lakewood, Wash., and Wiggs, a freshman from Seattle, were honored for their work on the Huskies' service teams.
